Week 1 of “The 7 Last Words of Jesus Christ” Series
Sunday, March 5, 2017 | 11:00am Morning Worship Service
Text: Luke 23:34: Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Key Points to Remember:
There are some people who will become your “Judas”. You will devote all of your time and resources to that person, and then that very person betrays you. Sometimes you have to take your hands off Judas and let that Judas hang him/herself! Allow God to fight your Judas, for the battle is not yours, it belongs to the Lord.
Jesus was beaten, spat on, and lied to before he was given a trial. The gruesome image of Jesus is taught because His sacrifice on the Cross saved our lives. You should be able to celebrate the Man who saved you from a burning hell!
The first word that Jesus utters, is “Father”. He recognizes that He is 100% humanity and 100% divinity. The moment is no longer His will but His Father’s. Remember that what you are going through is not your will, but God’s Will. God’s will may make you uncomfortable but you must trust Him. There is no safer place to be than in the Will of God!
Jesus asked for forgiveness for the soldiers who nailed him on the cross because they were only doing what they were told to do. There is a semi-colon after “them”. Jesus pauses because He may have heard his Father ask, “Why?” Jesus then replies, “For they know not what they do.”.
We are all undeserving of God’s grace and mercy. Aren’t you glad that He asked the Father for your forgiveness and died so that you could live again?
